For centuries Africa has been exploited and harmed by wealthy countries. Added to this, now there is severe “loss and damage” resulting from the greenhouse effect which is generated from those same wealthy countries because those countries have already put 1 trillion tons of extra CO2 into the atmosphere.
Unfortunately, the world media paints a false picture of Africa as doing nothing but begging for money to help with this “loss and damage”.
Our project says the opposite: Africa will actually provide the solutions. Africa will enthusiastically lead the way, while the rest of the world is sadly doing almost nothing to solve the problem of loss and damage.
Background
The problem: outside Africa, there is almost no activity to reduce that 1 trillion tons of CO2 that is cooking Africa and the world. There is only activity regarding “Emissions Reduction” (ER) which does nothing about today’s greenhouse effect, nothing about removing CO2. ER only tries to limit the 1% annual future additions of CO2 to the problem.
The solution: Half the solution will involve local African indigenous knowledge. The other half involves photosynthesis which is the main way our planet naturally removes CO2 and lowers the greenhouse effect. We are the ocean planet, and most photosynthesis happens in the oceans in what we call “ocean pastures”, not on land.
Ocean Pasture Restoration (OPR) increases photosynthesis, and it removes more CO2 than any other single thing we can do. OPR is the best, most eco-friendly, fastest, cheapest and safest thing we can do to stop “loss and damage” from continuing to torment Africa, and it can do it in a short time period.
Wealthy countries are poor leaders because they ignore these facts, they ignore OPR, and they ignore indigenous solutions. Africa will be the good leader.
Objectives – Expectations – Venue – Partners
Global objective
The artists will educate people around the world about how to solve the climate problem.
Specific objectives
- We will record the song, produce the video, launch an Africa Climate Band concert tour, present press conferences, and engage in educational events;
- We will perform the tour in November 2023 in Africa and the Big «African Climate Solutions Concert» at COP28 in Dubai in December 2023.
- OPR, because it restores plankton, the base of the ocean food chain, this will quickly bring back huge amounts of fish, benefiting local coastal communities, and feeding entire nations;
- OPR will remove significant amounts of CO2, lessening the greenhouse effect.
Expectations
- Our project will bring these climate solutions to the world by producing the song and video in conjunction with the concert tour and press conferences, all of which will explain and popularize these solutions;
- Millions of people around the world will be educated in these crucial practices.
