Accompanied by Salifou KABORE, Ismaël PARE, the president of Yilaa in Burkina Faso, talked to young urban producers around the Tanghin dam, in the urban area of Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso on February 27, 2021.
The objective of this field trip was to exchange with young producers on the issue of access to land for youth in urban areas.
During the discussions, we were able to observe that in each family, land is managed and controlled by the parents and is passed on from father to son. In other words, the right of access to land is based on patrilineal inheritance
According to a young producer we interviewed, the cultivable land is occupied by the parents. It should be noted that this cultivable land is not only insufficient today in view of the number of young people, but also is not secured by land title documents.
“ Those who have access lack technical and financial support for the modernization of market gardening, ” he said. Without land security documents, they can lose their land at any time. To conclude, the young producer said that in view of all the above, young people do not have the courage and confidence to devote themselves to land in urban areas.
