YILAA Engages in the Second Phase of Somalia’s NBSAP Renewal Workshop in Mogadishu

Strengthening Youth Voices for Biodiversity and Sustainable Land Management

On October 7th and 8th, at the Villas Hotel in Mogadishu, the Youth Initiative for Land in Africa (YILAA) proudly co-represented the voices of the youth alongside its strategic partner My Land Is My Life during the second phase of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) renewal workshop.

This crucial meeting brought together key national stakeholders, government representatives, environmental experts, and civil society organizations committed to defining a collective path for biodiversity conservation and sustainable management of Somalia’s natural resources.

 Collaboration for a Sustainable Future

The workshop highlighted the collaborative spirit and dedication of all partners involved in shaping Somalia’s renewed environmental agenda.
YILAA and My Land Is My Life actively contributed to the discussions, emphasizing the importance of youth inclusion, land rights, and climate resilience as essential pillars of biodiversity protection.

Their engagement reflects YILAA’s broader mission: to ensure that young Africans are not only beneficiaries but active contributors to national and continental development strategies on land, environment, and sustainability.

 Supporting National Leadership and Global Partnerships

YILAA stands in solidarity with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Somalia (MoECC) and all partners particularly the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in advancing this vital national initiative.

By aligning with these national and international stakeholders, YILAA reaffirms its commitment to promoting inclusive land governance, environmental stewardship, and youth empowerment across Africa.

 The Journey Continues

As Somalia moves forward in renewing its National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, YILAA remains dedicated to supporting processes that integrate youth perspectives, local innovation, and sustainable solutions for future generations.

Together, we are building a greener, more resilient Africa where young people lead the transformation toward environmental justice and equitable land management.
