On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., the virtual campaign STAND FOR HER LAND was held, a landmark event for the promotion of women’s land rights in Benin. This campaign was represented by Ms. Ashleigh Flowers, Global Manager, Stand for her Land Campaign, who had the honor of presenting the STAND FOR HER LAND project to a diverse audience, composed of land stakeholders and enthusiasts of the fight for women’s access to land.

Objectives and Key Points of the Presentation
The main objective of this campaign was to present the Stand for Her Land project to various actors in the land sector and to those passionate about the fight for women’s access to land. Stand for Her Land aims to establish a coalition on Beninese territory, which will serve as a powerful advocacy tool for women’s land rights. Ms. Ashleigh Flowers highlighted the main challenges faced by women in accessing land in Benin, including lack of incentives from governments, entrenched discriminatory norms, and women’s lack of information. The idea is to bring together stakeholders to use Stand for Her Land as a lever to advance women’s land rights in Benin.
Several organizations working in the fight for women’s land rights participated in this campaign, including: ILC, NLC, CEBEDES, YILAA, Hairou Commission, Women Empowerment, and several other NGOs. All organizations working on gender issues and fighting for women’s right of access to land are invited to join this great initiative.
Although Stand for Her Land does not yet exist in Benin, there are already groups active in this field, including the ILC National Land Coalition. Stand for Her Land will not be an antagonistic initiative to the existing National Land Coalition; rather, it will reinforce the actions previously carried out.
The session was rich in exchanges and clarifications, with many questions asked and answers provided by the experts present. The discussions highlighted the importance of coordinating efforts to strengthen women’s land rights in Benin.
